I’m Liz Taylor, founder of The Silver Bird, an artisan jewellery studio and teaching space in a semi‑rural Cambridgeshire village. I specialise in bespoke commissions, contemporary silver pieces, and I run a thriving jewellery school where I teach hands‑on silver and jewellery making to beginners, returners and advanced learners.

My passion for contemporary jewellery began during my Product Design degree, where I first explored how materials behave and how form can express ideas. I went on to spend 18 years as a Design and Technology teacher, guiding hundreds of young people through the process of designing and making original, meaningful products. During this time, I completed a Master’s at Cambridge University, focusing on creative idea generation and development. 

As a full-time jeweller, I deepened my technical practice through two Diplomas with the London Jewellery School, Fine Jewellery Making and Advanced Jewellery Making. These strengthened my skills in gemstone setting, filigree, and other specialist processes that allow me to create intricate, sculptural and highly detailed work.

Through The Silver Bird Jewellery School, I bring together my design background, technical expertise and love of teaching, offering expert, supportive tuition in a warm studio where people can learn real silversmithing skills and create pieces they’re proud of.
