Learn to make your own silver jewellery in my new teaching studio in Pampisford
The Silver Bird offers you a unique opportunity to learn traditional silversmithing techniques to make your own jewellery. My studio is located 15 minutes by car from Cambridge. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced jeweller, my studio is the perfect environment to learn and perfect your skills. See some of the exciting pieces you could make below!

I believe that small groups are the best way to learn. With one-to-one classes, or groups of more than eight learners, I am able to give each student individual attention and tailor the curriculum to your specific needs and goals.

My courses are designed to take you from the basics of jewellery making all the way to advanced techniques. I believe that having the right tools and equipment is essential to creating beautiful, high-quality jewellery; you'll have access to everything you need, and guidance on what to buy if you wish to invest in your own tools. With opportunities coming for learners to hire tools and a workbench in between lessons, you will be able to practice and hone your skills.

Learning Opportunities
Hello
My name is Liz Taylor
I am the owner of The Silver Bird, an artisan, handmade jewellery business based in a semi-rural village in Cambridgeshire. I specialise in bespoke commissions and customisable pieces, as well as teaching traditional jewellery making techniques. I am a member of The Guild of Jewellery Designers, and have a Diploma in Fine Jewellery, accredited by the London Jewellery School. I am currently completing a Diploma in Advanced Jewellery making

I was a secondary Design and Technology teacher for 18 years, over which time I taught hundreds of young people how to design and make novel, beautiful products, by exploring material properties and generating unique forms. During this time, I completed a Masters of Education at Cambridge University, focusing on creative idea generation and development. This gave me a particular passion for biomimicry; using and replicating the nature through product design to make unique textures and forms.

I have taught adult silver jewellery making classes in several Cambridgeshire schools, and have designed my new home studio and teaching room which opened in September 2024. My new space is purpose built with high quality tools and equipment for all levels of learners.

Jewellery making with silver is easily the most addictive thing I have ever done. And that's before we talk about the enchanting world of gemstones! Whether you are into contemporary or classic pieces, you are learning for pleasure, or you want your own career change, I can help you fall in love with the processes and achieve your jewellery-making potential. I want every learn to feel supported and empowered to achieve their goals and ambitions. I strive to create an environment which is welcoming, inclusive and relaxing space for my learners.

Contact me for an informal chat if you'd like more information of what I can offer. I look forward to making with you.
